I needed a morning where I didn't feel like I was off to the races. I was supposed to get up for a run since I am training for a triathlon this summer. But today I decided to get up just as early and ease myself into my morning and reconnect to myself. Started it with a quiet hug with my honey by the sink as we listened to the geese squawking across the way in the park. Ahhhh....Quiet! it's elusive in this bustling house with 3 kids. The windows had been left open downstairs overnight and the air was so cool and still and smelled SO strong of the earth. The sky was so blue as the sun was coming up and beginning to peak through the trees. As I stepped out on to the deck to see it, a red tailed hawk swooped right over my head and through the trees. I stood for a quiet moment and absorbed the beginning of a new day, the sounds of the birds and the bustling of the squirrels that has already long been underway.
I wanted to keep that connected feeling going throughout the day. So, I decided to do a little meditation thing I've been doing to set the tone for the day. It's called EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique. Basically, tapping with your fingers on acupuncture points. It's painless and can be done in minutes. I've been using it for a few years to acknowledge and release negative emotions or energy blocks. But, it can also be used to set positive emotions for your day. I recently received one by email from Rick Wilkes & Cathy Vartuli; Emotional Freedom Coaches at www.energytapping.info called "Good Morning God (or Universe or Divine)". If you are not familiar with tapping or EFT go to their site for some great info on it. I have more listed on my Resources page. It goes like this:
Top of the Head: "Good Morning, God."
Eyebrow: "Thank you for loving me all through the night."
Side of the Eye: "Thank you for waking me this morning and letting me feel your presence."
Under the Eye: "Would you show me in little ways, all through the day, how much you love me?"
Under the Nose: "Please help me to be open to joy and gratitude today."
Chin: "Thank you for this body, God."
Collarbone: "I am so grateful for its health and strength."
Under the Arm: "My right leg is trying to tell me something."
Top of the Head: "But I'm having trouble understanding."
Eyebrow: "Could you give me insights into what would be most helpful for it?"
Side of the Eye: "I know you gave my body great intelligence."
Under the Eye: "Please help me trust that and be open to it."
Under the Nose: "Please help me to see the wonder in today."
Chin: "I'd like to feel safe and playful today."
Collarbone: "Thank you, God, for this wonderful world."
Under the Arm: "Thank you, God, for this wonderful life."
Top of the Head: "Good morning, God."
I felt renewed and ready for the bustle of the morning.
As I started to move into my morning routine of making my tea and emptying the dishwasher I heard the first patter of little feet and got a massive running hug from my little guy which turned into a long heart to heart connection. Then, while in the shower, the usual morning "barge in" by my daughter as she chatters on all about her dream of the two of us riding on unicorns to a princess party. Then, she asks " Please mommy, draw hearts for me"....and I do, with smiley faces in them.
I think it won't be long before she doesn't ask me to draw hearts for her on the shower walls anymore and I savor the moment!!!! This is what it's all about and I'm ready to start my day.
I hope you find moments to savor in your day....moments of a true connection to yourself and to those you love.
